He earned a Post-Doctoral Management Certificate in Leadership and Organizational Strategy with a research focus on cultural intelligence, emotional intelligence, and diversity intelligence. Dr. King is a state-licensed and nationally board-certified clinical mental health counselor (CMHC) with over 20 years of clinical experience in private practice, outpatient, correctional, school, community-based, and online settings. He co-owned and clinically directed an outpatient mental health and substance abuse treatment clinic that collected data for the American Psychiatric Association's Routine Clinical Practice field trials that informed the DSM-5 revision process.
