REACH: From Defending to Mending

Course Objectives

We will introduce a new conflict-resolution program for counselors to use with individual clients, couples, families, and groups. The following topics will be covered:

• Recognize the defensive cycle

• Emerge from defense vacuums

• Be authentic with HERV

• Control your reactions

Andrew S Hogan (Andy) is an author and speaker on the subject of mental health. His book, Beating Mental Illness, has been sold throughout the USA, Canada, England, and China. Additionally, Andy’s 5-book series: REACH for the kids, is currently pub-lished through Research Press-who markets directly to the mental-health industry. Andy is a member of Chi Sigma Iota (CSI), the international honor society for counseling students and professional counselors, and the UMHCA honor society: Mu Eta Chi (MEC). He graduated from the University of Phoenix’s CACREP accredited Master in Mental Health Coun-seling program in August 2018.

Kristal James is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, National Certified Counselor, Approved Clinical Supervisor, and Board Certified Telemental Health Counselor. She currently teaches at the Uni-versity of Phoenix’s CACREP accredited program and was a faculty advisor to Andy. She has over 15 years working with youth in a mental health setting. She is co-hosting this presentation with Andy Hogan.
