Exploring Biases Involving Sexuality
WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES:
The presenters will use clinical experiences, vignettes, and workshop discussions to explore and bring greater clarity to some of the following questions:•What do I do when 1 notice that I have judgments about clients whose identities (e.g., sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression) are uncomfortable for me? What do I do when clients engage in sexual behaviors with which I disagree (e.g., polyamory, swinging, affairs, marriage/divorce, prostitution, viewing "porn." masturbation, kink)? What about people who want too little, or too much, sex? What are my attitudes about abortion? Birth control? What are my beliefs about older people having sex?
What about people with disabilities? How might my attitudes affect my work with clients? What, if anything, do I want to do about this?•How do I better distinguish issues involving the law, ethics, and clinical practice?
