Description:
This presentation aims to review the current research on the frequent use of social media in young people, the harms that it may cause, and strategies that can be used to overcome barriers. For people with diabetes, the relationship can become overly complicated. Living with diabetes in the United States has several barriers to receive adequate healthcare to care for this chronic condition, so many turn to the internet for their go-to resource. We’ll discuss best practices to educate and inform your patients.
Objectives:
Based on the content of the workshop participants will be able to:
1. Describe why the U.S. Surgeon General issued an advisory on social media and youth mental health
2. List potential social media harms
3. Identify diabetes burnout
4. List five proactive strategies to take with patients to ensure best practices are being utilized with social media
