Gender and Sexually Diverse (GSD) Individuals Who Are Survivors of Sexual Harm

Workshop Description
This workshop is based upon a series of focus groups with gender and sexually diverse individuals, all of whom were survivors of sexual harm.
Specific challenges experienced by these individuals, as well as treatment considerations and recommendations, will be included.
Presenter
Ken Roach, EdD, LCMHC
Ken Roach is a Counselor Educator with more than 26 years of experience in the practice of clinical mental health counseling, and more than 22 years as full- and part-time faculty at three different universities.
Ken’s clinical practice has included individual, family, and group counseling with adolescents and adults experiencing a variety of psychiatric disorders in a range of settings including private practice, community mental health, intensive in-home services, and inpatient psychiatry.
Populations he has served include ethnic minority and underserved families, adult and adolescent survivors of sexual violence, LGBTQ+ adults and adolescents, and individuals navigating faith and religion transitions.
Professional service experience includes contributions to local, regional, and national organizations and boards, as well as expert witness testimony in criminal cases involving sexual violence.
Workshop Objectives
Participants will be able to:

Increase their knowledge of the challenges experienced by gender and sexually diverse (GSD) individuals who are survivors of sexual harm.

Learn about treatment considerations and options when working with GSD individuals who are survivors of sexual harm.

Learn more about the effects of trauma, including childhood trauma, and considerations about healing for trauma survivors, particularly those who identify as GSD.
