Ethical challenges in Counseling are not always dramatic or obvious. Many of the situations that place Counselors at risk arise from everyday clinical practice, including documentation errors, telehealth procedures, and boundary-crossing. This webinar will explore common ethical violations and how to avoid them, with an emphasis on recognizing often-overlooked issues that can have significant professional consequences.

In the free webinar, Everyday Ethics: Recognizing and Preventing Common Counselor Violations, on July 23 from 1–2 pm EDT, participants will explore these violations and how to protect themselves in the case of an incident. The webinar will also provide an overview of professional liability insurance, explaining what it covers, why maintaining an individual policy is an essential part of ethical practice, and how it differs from employer-provided coverage. Attendees will leave with practical strategies to reduce risk, strengthen ethical decision-making, and better protect both their clients and their careers.

This presentation is especially designed for Counseling students and new professionals and is brought to you in collaboration with Chi Sigma Iota Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society International, the National Board for Certified Counselors, and the Association for Counselor Education and Supervision.

After this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • describe common ethical violations in Counseling.
  • recognize ethical violations outside of the extremes, such as improper documentation or not verifying location during a telehealth session.
  • identify what professional liability insurance is, what it covers, and why Counselors should maintain a policy.
  • understand why an employer’s coverage may not be sufficient.
