Free Sexual Assault Awareness Training

The Utah Pride Center is hosting two free online trainings focused on clinical work with LGBTQ+ survivors of sexual assault. Trainings will be led by Andrew Pari, executive director of Sexual Assault Awareness. You can register through Eventbrite by clicking the links below. There are separate registrations for each event and while we encourage participation in both, they do work as standalone trainings. Please email michelleanklan@utahpridecenter.org with any questions.

Trauma Treatment Overview

Thursday, 9/10, 2-4pm MST

Does This Mean I Liked It?: Arousal and Orgasm in Sexual Assault

Thursday, 9/24, 2-4pm MST

This is a hallmark training for SAA not covered in-depth by anyone in the field of sexual trauma recovery.  Andrew Pari is a national expert on the subject and has conducted the first research into this phenomenon.  Arousal and orgasm occur in as many as 30% of sexualized violence cases and is a primary source of shame and guilt for the survivor.  It is a barrier to reporting, investigation, prosecution and treatment.  This presentation will focus on survivor experience and treatment intervention for the practitioner.

Andrew Pari, LCSW, Diplomate, is a leading authority on “taboo” and undiscussed topics in the sexual assault field.  As Executive Director of Sexual Assault Awareness, his 25-year career treating survivors includes specialized populations in the sex trade and victims of trafficking.  He’s written national policy on sex trade, serves as Certification Program Director for the Center for Positive Sexuality, and is a recognized expert on trauma, sexualized violence, and disaster response.
