Trauma & Transition. Religious Trauma & Faith Transitions.Training for counselors

With up to 20% of U.S. Adults suffering from symptoms of religious trauma, it's crucial to expose clinicians to the research, lived experience, and impact of religious trauma.

The prosocial and adaptive facets of religion are well known and documented. What's less known is the harm, trauma, and impact that some can experience in religious experiences. This course covers Conceptualization & assessment, High Control Implications, & Treatment Considerations & Interventions. I share professional experience, personal and professional stories, and cite research, data, studies, and cite theoretical orientations, assessments, and evidence based suggestions from the field of religious trauma (which isn't evidence based, well established, and has no official place in the DSM or official assessment process - which I cover in detail). We * Learn to identify signs and symptoms of religious trauma, * Explore comorbidities, * learn to assess the extent of a client's religious trauma * Learn & identify stages and symptoms of religious deconstruction & * learn to assess where a client is in leaving their faith  * Learn to recognize and describe the psychologically harmful impacts of high-control tactics use to elicit conformity and subjugation * Trauma 101 * Evaluate therapeutic modalities for their effectiveness in treating religious trauma & * gain practical skills for addressing common presenting issues among religious trauma clients  * Evaluate therapeutic modalities for their effectiveness in treating a client in the faith & religious deconstruction process & * gain practical skills for addressing common presenting issues among faith deconstruction clients
