Dr. Kevin Knutson has been a licensed mental health counselor for the past 30 years. As a counselor, he has worked in public schools, adult and youth residential facilities, online counseling, wilderness programs, private practice, and in mental health facilities. His areas of expertise include trauma, sexual abuse, domestic violence, substance abuse, parenting, training, and leadership. He has presented at many local, state, and national professional conferences. He has taught many master's level mental health courses at several institutions.

Prior to his work in counseling and academia, Dr. Knutson served a tour in Germany as an officer in the U.S. Army and then as a branch manager of a bank. He graduated from Brigham Young University with degrees in Corporate Communications (BA) and Educational Psychology (MEd). He then graduated with his doctorate in a CACREP-accredited program through the University of Cumberlands studying Counselor Education and Supervision. Dr. Knutson was one of the founding members of the RMU Mental Health and School Counseling programs.
