Working with Difficult Clients: A Motivational Interviewing Approach

Course Objectives:

• Define MI as a counseling style

• Define the principles of MI

• Demonstrate skills with OARS

• Demonstrate at least 2 methods to elicit change talk

Taught by Sabine Weil

Sabine graduated from the University of Phoenix with a Master of Counseling in March of 2001. She has spent most of her career as a mental health therapist working in the field of addiction. Currently she is the Clinical Director at Acqua Recovery Center in Midway.  She has been on the faculty of several Universities, including the University of Phoenix since 2003.  Sabine was trained in Motivational Interviewing through the Addiction Technology Transfer Center.  She feels incredibly privileged to be an influence in the lives of her students and clients. 

Utah Mental Health Counselors Association is Utah's hub for enhancing the profession of mental health counselors.
