Course Description (CE Provider Format): This 12-hour, two-day live continuing education course is designed for licensed mental health professionals seeking to enhance their trauma treatment skills using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Rooted in contextual behavioral science and current trauma neuroscience, this course provides clinicians with practical strategies to assess trauma functionally, regulate through the body, and facilitate healing through flexible ACT processes. Participants will explore the body’s physiological responses to trauma, understand the neurobehavioral mechanisms underlying avoidance and fusion, and learn to deliver trauma-sensitive interventions that respect client pacing and readiness. The course introduces the "Window of Willingness" — a novel ACT-based model for assessing when clients are open to trauma content — and offers structured tools for shame reduction, self-compassion, values clarification, and exposure-based growth. Clinicians will leave with a clear framework to support recovery from complex and developmental trauma using a trauma-focused ACT approach that centers compassion, safety, and long-term flexibility.
